Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 9:50AM Another Round of Commercials for 'The Spirit'
I don't what this says about
The Spirit,
but the commercials for the new comic book adaptation kill, and anything longer
than 30 seconds doesn't do the movie any favors. It's
Frank Miller's
vision of Will Eisner's world, and I'm happy that both The Spirit is getting a
movie and that Frank Miller is directing it. At least in theory.
We'll see how he can pull it off, because Miller can
certainly create memorable characters and stories, and the colors in The
Spirit, while clearly reminiscent of
Sin City
(to put it mildly), are damned evocative. We'll just have to try to separate
those two films when we watch it. I wonder if Christmas is the best time for this movie,
or if it would have been better served, say, last weekend, when nothing new of
significant interest came out.

Gabriel Macht plays The Spirit, a cop who is killed but returns from the dead as something...different. He's out to stop the evil Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson), and there are plenty of hot chicks to look, if you're into that sort of thing, with Scarlett Johansson, Paz Vega, Jaime King, Sarah Paulson, and Eva Mendes, who appears to be the key vamp in all this.
Cinematical found three new commercials, and as we said, when they keep it to 30 seconds, The Spirit looks like a hell of a good time:
