David Goyer Not Ready for More 'Blade'
Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 7:37AM
You can always count on
David Goyer
to give you a good quote. This summer, he was the one telling Dark Knight
fans to relax, saying that the third film was a long way off and nobody but
Christopher Nolan knew what villains they were going to use. Then Goyer
started
dashing hopes by saying that the new Batman franchise really didn't
need Catwoman and The Penguin. Good stuff.
Now, the
Unborn director has to face similar questions
about one of his own film creations,
Blade. After writing the first film, writing
the second and writing and directing the third installment, and producing a short-lived TV
spin-off, you'd think Goyer might have had enough of that story.

Not entirely.
Shock Till You Drop asked Goyer if he sees a day when Blade will return, with or without his involvement. "I'm sure New Line at some point would like to do another version of it. Me? Never say never," he admitted, "but I think remakes are more successful the more time there is in between."
Citing this summer's Hulk re-launch, which did nothing to indicate that audiences want a bunch of Hulk movies, Goyer says that you can't just resurrect these franchises solely to start over again. "(T)he longer time you have between remakes [and their originals], the better. For me, ten years is the minimum you really need."
But that doesn't mean New Line's listening to him:
"I heard rumors that they may want to start from scratch with a new person playing Blade. It's funny because I thought about how I never wanted to do a vampire film ever again because I'm sick of it. But I was reading the Tomb of Dracula Omnibus and I hadn't read them in a long time and I thought it might be cool to do another vampire movie at some point."
Well, vampires are pretty hip right now, and I prefer kick-ass vampires to Anne Rice bloodsuckers. So if I had to pick one to remake, it'd be Blade all day for me.

Well, Interview with the Vampire is a really good film but I remember how fresh Blade felt when it first came out.
Blade III was also very good, even if I think that Blade II was a dip in quality.
I wouldn't mind seeing another Blade with Wesley Snipes. I think he works really well in that role.
David Goyer didn't direct Blade II, Guillermo del Toro did. Goyer wrote all three screenplays, and directed the third installment, but he didn't create Blade. Blade was created by Marv Wolfman in the pages of THE TOMB OF DRACULA comic book in the late 1960s.
Yes, quite right. My mistake on the second film. I've changed it in the text, but thanks for the proofread.
