Carla Gugino: Porn Star

While nobody was looking, Watchmen's Carla Gugino, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Marley Shelton, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Simon Baker signed on for an ensemble comedy called Women in Trouble. Variety says the film hasn't found distribution and is currently filming. And now, in a move that might be unprecedented, Gugino will be back in the sequel, which will be called Elektra Luxx.

The title's no accident; Gugino will play a porn star who discovers she's pregant...and then winds up dating Seth Rogen. OK, not exactly. But she is a porn star and she does get pregnant, throwing her life into turmoil.

The sequel to the film that hasn't even been finished by director Sebastian Gutierrez will also star Timothy Olyphant and Alicia Silverstone, in addition to several of the actors from the first film. And then there's a third movie in this trilogy called Women in Ecstasy, and like the others, Gutierrez is funding in through his Gato Negro Films.

A few thoughts: Those are all working actors, so you'd have to think the script can't be completely foul. And yet, no distribution. Odd. Also, shouldn't Gutierrez take it one film at a time? Won't he by definition have less available money for the end of the story (since this is a trilogy) if nobody releases the first two movies?

And, for my own edification, how do you congratulate someone like Carla Gugino on being ideally suited to play a porn star? Let's be honest: She's not exactly Kathy Bates, you know? But saying, "You'd make a great porn star" is hardly flattering.

Oddly enough, that's what her boyfriend had to do, since she and Gutierrez are an item. If you're not jealous of him yet, how about this: His best-known script is probably Snakes on a Plane.

Someone is outkicking his coverage...
