AV Club's Ten Worst Films of 2008
Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 6:21AM
We've heard a lot about the best films of the year, but
not much about the worst. And to be sure, these ponzi schemes we're hearing
about so much this week have nothing on some of the crimes perpetrated against
moviegoers this year.

Proof positive: This list from
The Onion's
AV Club. It's counting down the ten worst films of 2008...and it
doesn't even have three no-contest, must-have worst films of the year. I know a
lot of critics didn't see
Disaster Movie. But I did. And I've never seen
a worse movie as a professional reviewer, and that stretches back ten years now.
So it's a rare gem. I mean, The Happening isn't great but at least it had
a story.

The other two are Over Her Dead Body, which is sheer torture, and The Love Guru, which is the Inquisition. I'm not seeing Meet Dave is a real treat, but there's a lot more to investigate here than just these ten movies, three of which happen to be documentaries.
Here's the AV Club list of the worst of the year, beginning with the least atrocious:
Religulous
Good Dick
In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale
Where In The World Is Osama Bin Laden?
Fireproof
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed
Meet Dave
The Hottie And The Nottie
The Happening
Witless Protection

r u kidding???? Fireproof is one of the few good films i saw that year
How in gods name could you say that Good Dick was one of the worst films of the year?
I admit it wasn't one of the best and it is quite a niche film but I thoroughly enjoyed it and in no way does it deserve to be in a list with the likes of Disaster Movie or Meet Dave
I just saw "Good Dick" and I agree it was a standout suckfest.
It is amazing how clearly some of these ratings are based on ideology rather than cinematic qualities. That's too bad, but I guess it firmly establishes the lack of credibility of the authors of this list. I'm sorry they can't appreciate the movies on this list that made obviously outstanding achievements in the box office, as well as an amazingly well received documentary among the general populace. Apparently the critiques of the few far outweigh the opinions of the many. How sad.
Wow, I'm pretty upset with them over including Good Dick. I generally find the Onion AV Club's yearly Best of Film article to be superior to the Academy Awards and a better indicator of quality but Good Dick is a strangely beautiful movie and there's no excuse for hiding it amongst these other offerings
Good Dick is a special film that was written, directed, produced and acted by an awesome woman named Marianna Palka. The female character she created may be hard to understand, and therefore prematurely judged for being crazy and hostile, but as someone who relates to her very closely, I really appreciated this film and Ms. Palka for making it.
Whoever created this list obviously doesn't understand what this movie is about and that it's important to portray love as gentle, forgiving and complicated.
Putting this on the same list as Disaster Movie and The Hottie and The Nottie? What The Fuck?! These are pieces of Hollywood straight-to-video trash that add nothing to our culture and take women a step back.
I never comment on websites like this, but I think this is a film that people need to defend.
I love people who cannot express themselves more fully than text vernacular. Unless you're Prince it's more than a little tacky.
With respect to the 2 items above "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" (2008) and "Fireproof" I agree that these are outstanding on many levels. I was fortunate to have been involved in the decisions to purchase and to freely distribute for viewing (on a borrow-and-return basis) a number of copies of each of these dvd's. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET SEEN EITHER OF THESE OUTSTANDING MOVIES, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND BOTH OF THEM. HOWEVER, IF YOU CURRENTLY SUPPORT PRESIDENT OBAMA'S SOCIAL AGENDAS (GENERALLY SPEAKING) YOU PROBABLY WOULD NOT APPRECIATE EITHER OF THESE MOVIES as they tend to appeal to less liberal-minded men and women than our current President.
