As much as I love the original and as much as I believe
English language remakes of foreign films can be a good thing, I'm not sure I'm
on board with
Keanu Reeves remaking
Cowboy Bebop. But the actor tells
MTV,
"We're trying to do that."
If
the remake goes forward, Reeves would play
Spike Spiegel, a futuristic bounty hunter who jets across the galaxy looking for
bad guys. “It’s got a Western quality, a Western film noir aspect to it,” said
Keanu. “It’s got so much style to it, and that’s part of its appeal. That kind
of Old West, border town, low-tech science fiction aspect.”

The original anime series began in 1998, and in 2001, there was a knock-down terrific film adaptation that, frankly, doesn't need a remake - perhaps especially a live action one - because it functions as well in our culture as it does in its country of origin. It has so many Americanisms in it that you barely need grounding in the art and style of anime to really get it.
Still, MTV reports that Reeves' producer pal Erwin Stoff is taking the first steps toward getting the film made at Fox. “We’ve got the rights, we’ve got a writer,” confirmed Reeves. “He’s putting together a scene outline.”
“We’re taking the Red Eye [story], the beginning part of the series and then we’ll deal with the end of the series. We’re trying to figure out [the time frame]. We’re looking at the story right now,” Reeves explained.
Now, I will say that despite Reeves' obvious love and knowledge of Cowboy Bebop and how that could ever translate into something akin to "let's make a doughy American version!", he does seem to be concerned about some of the narrative trappings that make the story so unique. And he's also cognizant of how to explain all of this to newbies.
"Iit’s got so much of an origin-story obligation; you’ve got to get people up to speed, but you don’t want to do much of that. There are a lot of things to take into consideration, but we think we can do something good.”
I'd personally like a little more confidence on the subject.

Worst idea evah.
awesome! this is the best thing that's happened to me since they re-imagined The Day The Earth Stood Still!!!11!!!
I have to admit, i'm a closet Keanu fan. So that being said, yeah, I am kind of on board with this idea.
I think he has the look, tall, skinny, emotionless. I don't know ALOT about Cowboy bebop, but I do think that the main character was not an emotional guy. Tell me if i'm wrong. I think, as with all things, "if done well" it could be pretty freakin good. Does it NEED to be made, even made live action, nah. Not really. Would it hurt the series? Probably not. I guess it depends on who is putting it on screen and who the ensemble is. I could totally see Ron Pearlman as that big dude (Jet Black) with the cyborg arm on the "team".
I dunno, putting real actors faces to characters, kinda makes me want this to happen. Reading Spike's (Keanu) bio, he sure has done alot of what Spike's done. Alot of kung fu, alot of gunplay, and very laid back attitude. Seems damn perfect to me other than people just don't have a liking for Keanu in general.
I am not a fan of anime or most Japanese cinema in general. However, I happened to see Cowboy Bebop on a lark at a festival, and you are correct, sir, that it is a terrific film. There is no reason whatsoever to make a live action version, with or without a cool breeze over the mountains. Maybe when Dragonball tanks, they'll change their minds.
It hurts thinking about Dragonball....though to be honest I got tired of DBZ many years ago while in the Air Force. For some freaking reason, they had the same episode playing in a loop on one of the cartoon networks...hated it after that.
you bitches my movie 'll rock your shit off
Viagra Online without prescription what a nostalgic post, i wonder if you have more info about Cowboy Bebop!
