Posters - 'Coraline' Knows Her ABC's
Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 9:22PM
I saw a trailer for
Coraline the other day in the theater. It's
better there than on my computer monitor. And that's really saying something
because I enjoyed the hell out of
Henry Selick's new 3-D stop-motion visual
feast when I first saw the trailer online.
Who's Henry Selick? He directed The Nightmare Before
Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. But Coraline represents something a
little further along, with this being an adaptation of a
Neil Gaiman story and
another experiment in the burgeoning 3-D market. So I'm excited for this one. I
hope it finds an audience if it's as good as it looks.

Coraline is not in direct competition with the big
summer movies nor is it in the same season as one of the year's bigger animated
flicks, like Up or Toy Story 3. Focus has put it in February, which is kind of a
safe haven for very good films that may not have huge box office appeal. It's
not the showcase months of May or November, but it's not January or August,
either. Look for Coraline on February 6th.

Earlier this week, in the sort of stunt that drives me nuts, a series of 26 new Coraline posters were sent to various sites around the web. Fortunately, you don't have to go to all 26 websites; you can just visit the greatest resource for movie posters I know of, IMP.
To get you started, let's recite an old Jackson 5 classic:
