Another New 'Spirit' Featurette

And from the Enigma Wrapped in a Riddle Department, here's another pretty arresting featurette from The Spirit. Here's the dilemma, as far as I can see: If this movie happens to be really good, then The Spirit would have not been well-served by a lot of its marketing materials.

We've talked about that aspect of it as much as we have the movie, it seems. The posters and trailers are all over the road, and if your gauge is just the last thing you've seen, your opinion of The Spirit has changed just about anytime you've seen something new.

I like this featurette (and I swear I'll give a cool DVD to anyone who coins a better word for it than "featurette"), and I think if the movie can balance all those unusual elements - the visuals, the come hither delivery of every woman in the cast, the period dialogue, Sam Jackson redefining over-the-top - then it's got a chance. It's just that multiple styles like that usually don't work, or did you think Chris Tucker added a lot to The Fifth Element?

Consistency of vision is crucial, particularly in a stylized movie like this. I wonder if Frank Miller will deliver. Take a look at the latest feature-y thingee and see if it doesn't again capture your interest.

Well. according to the Valkyrie school of marketing, this is a trailer disguised as a DVD special feature.

Of course, that doesn't roll off the tongue, now does it?
