Rob Zombie Returning for 'Halloween 2'?

Rob Zombie appears to be on his way back to Haddonfield, the hometown of Michael Myers. Shock Till You Drop feels really confident that they've nailed a big-time horror movie scoop, and they've added an update to their original story mentioning that an official press release to this end will be distributed later in the week.

If Zombie returns to direct Halloween 2, which we can only assume is a sequel to his revamped Halloween from 2007 and not a remake of the mostly-awful-but-still-a-zillion-times-better-than-Halloween-3 Halloween II, it won't be because he's always wanted to. Zombie had expressed no interest in making a sequel until this story broke on Monday. Indeed, horror movie wunderkinds Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo were developing the project for Dimension Films and Trancas International, but they split a couple of weeks ago.

News of a sequel really intensified after Dimension announced that it wanted to make a direct-to-DVD Halloween movie, as part of its huge stake in that market, but only after a theatrical sequel had come and gone. But why the sudden change of heart from Zombie? Perhaps he felt compelled to not let anyone else guide the project or perhaps he was offered a ton of money. Either way, it looks like Zombie could be back behind the man behind the mask for at least one more slaughter.

As we've always maintained about Rob Zombie, I'd love to see him direct someone else's script, because his writing is indisputably bad. The movie shoots in March, which doesn't leave a lot of time for anyone to write a script, but maybe those details will follow in the upcoming press release.
