Sunday, December 21, 2008 at 1:23AM Detroit Critics Pick Rourke and Tomei Among Usual Suspects
The critics in Detroit took time away from their busy
schedules shaking their heads at the ignominy of the Detroit Lions Oh-fer season
and the even worse news from the Big Three automakers to compile a really good
list of award winners, which we found over at
Alternative
Film Guide.

With another win each for
Slumdog Millionaire,
Danny Boyle, and
Heath Ledger,
there are now consensus picks in the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best
Supporting Actor races, but Detroit didn't go with one of the more usual choices
in either the Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress categories. I think that
speaks to a fairly level playing field where those performances are concerned,
and here, where the supporting actress supports the group's pick for its Best
Actor, that makes its own kind of sense.
