What Evil Lurks in 'The Shadow' Remake?

I suppose if
The Phantom
is fair game, anything's possible. We're less than two years away from a remake
of Let the Right One In, which is still in theaters, ditto The Lives
of Others, the Best Foreign Language film winner two years ago. Before you
know it, we'll have a big, critically-acclaimed movie that has to push its
release date forward just so it hits theaters before its remake does.
Producer
Michael Uslan recently updated
IGN
on his future projects. Uslan is a name you should know; he's a producer or
executive producer on The Spirit, Constantine, Swamp Thing, and the last
six Batman movies. Yeah, dating all the way back to the first Tim Burton
flick. And Uslan says that his next project could be The Shadow, which
he'd squeeze in before the new Captain Marvel movie.
And now from the Everything Old is New Again Department: The Shadow.

Sam Raimi was announced as a producer on The Shadow a couple of years ago, but news on the remake/update/reimagining has been non-existent ever since. I can understand wanting a mulligan on this one; the film version of The Shadow could've only been worse if they somehow managed to cast Topher Grace as Venom.
Alec Baldwin, you'll remember, played The Shadow the first time, and it damn near ruined his career. Uslan told IGN, "he has a specific actor in mind to play Lamont Cranston, a.k.a. The Shadow...he did say it was a rather unconventional choice that nevertheless excited executives when he told them."
Now this would make for interesting casting, especially if they keep it authentic to the time. Who could play The Shadow? He's probably not a big enough name, but I've really enjoyed what Mark Strong has brought to the film landscape of 2008. That wouldn't excite executives, I wouldn't think, but I'm sure he could do it.

Damn near ruined his career? Only AGE and general swelling of the face has ruined Alec's career, so much so that he's doing cable-on-your-pc commercials. The Shadow was the best movie of it's time, any stick-up-their-ass critic that says otherwise is full of themselves.
I'm gonna go ahead and ditto 'You're full of Bullcrap' - besides being a childhood family favorite of mine; having seen it several times as I've matured and seen more an more movies - the original 'The Shadow' is cemented every year as the best movie of all time. IMO.
