Fan website
TheArnoldFans recently attended the California
Museum' California Hall of Fame induction ceremony, primarily because it was a
good chance to stalk the Governator. But they asked a fairly pertinent question
while on the premises: Exactly what will
Arnold
Schwarzenegger be doing in
Terminator Salvation?
There have been rumors about Arnold's face was going to
be pasted onto the body of look-alike
Roland
Kickinger and that the governor had recorded dialogue for the T-600,
an earlier model of Schwarzenegger's famed T-800 design. But neither
McG
nor anyone else associated with the film has confirmed that Schwarzengger is
involved in any official capacity. We know he visited the set, but that's hardly
a surprise.

So will Arnold be the voice of the new but old Terminator? "You never know," he said. Perhaps that's true, but wouldn't Arnold know? This guy's hiding something... Actually, he's probably contractually obligated to not say anything, and they wouldn't have a contract if he didn't have a part. I fully expect Schwarzenegger's voice to be in the new film, and in the subsequent ones, since the longer in the series we go, the closer to the original Terminator we'll be moving. It doesn't do any good to use Arnie now but not later. If it's what we expect, his face digitally superimposed on Kickinger's body and his dialogue added after the fact, that could be a huge thing technologically. Think of the possibilities. But because Schwarzenegger is the signature figure of the franchise and because incorporating him at this point is both something to talk about and a fairly significant piece of the film's storyline, it's a smart way to go to keep the storyline alive.

It would be cool to see the scenes of the Future John sending the Arnie Terminator back to the second movie. Taking a page from Benjamin Button and X-Men: The Last Stand, I suppose they would have to digitally "youthify" the Governator. So who knows how involved he is, though I would be willing to bet more involved than they are telling us.
This latest Terminator may well please the committed obsessive, but the rest of us are left feeling simultaneously beaten about the head and yet slightly underwhelmed.
