Writer Helgeland to Shake Up Angelina's 'Salt'

There's been a lot of press for the film formerly known
as
Edwin A. Salt, which was then going to be
Erika Salt or Evelyn Salt and now looks like it's going to be just
Salt. Maybe. All the press dates back to when Tom Cruise was connected as
the star of the film, which will be directed by
Phillip Noyce.
Then this summer, Cruise was out and
Angelina
Jolie was in. Obviously, that would change some things, since she'd
be playing the same character he was. Well then she wanted to stay home with her
kids. But now she's back. Then the title and character name officially changed.
And now, Salt is bringing in a fresh set of eyes to look at the script.

Kurt Wimmer's original will get some touching up courtesy of Brian Helgeland, according to Movie Hole. Helgeland has written everything from a Freddy Krueger movie to the adaptation of L.A. Confidential and from Man on Fire to the screenplay for Mystic River. And before the film goes in front of the cameras in March, the studio wants Helgeland to take a look at it, work on some of the dialogue, and get it ready to go.
Moviehole also reports that Sony wants to make Salt into a franchise, and it's been years since Angelina had one of those. I guess they're pretty high on this, then. I'd hope so, after all it's been through.
