TRON Returns for 'TRON 2'

Give credit to Disney for keeping as much credibility as the studio possibly can with the upcoming sequel to TRON. TRON 2 - or TR2N or our own much more appealing 2RON - has Jeff Bridges back in the fold as Kevin Flynn. Great call. And this week, it was announced that Bruce Boxleitner , who played Alan Bradley/TRON in the original will reprise the role.

The production is picking up steam with the news that new additions Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett have been added as bits of futuristic digital eye candy. Plot details are hard to come by, which you might expect, and that leaves me with a bit of a question mark as far as Boxleitner is concerned. Is he a leading character again, or is it more of walk-on role?

The only reason I ask is, despite how much this sequel might mean to die-hards, Disney clearly wants this to be an event; you don't premiere a trailer at Comic Con three years ahead of time if you're hoping for an arthouse hit. Are Bridges and Boxleitner really going to manufacture that kind of audience? Or will we see a new generation involved at some point?

I'd say we will get some new blood, not counting the beauties they just latched onto, to give this sequel more snap, crackle, and pop with a younger audience. Plus, just in terms of storytelling, it'd be a bit strange to see two hot women in their 20s paired with actors pushing retirement age. This isn't a Woody Allen movie, after all...
