Clive Cocaine 'Cartagena'

We mentioned in passing a couple of weeks ago that Clive Owen appeared to have a big year ahead of him, with The International and Duplicity both hitting theaters before the summer. Considering his last film was over a year ago, this is welcome news.

And if you're a fan, you might think his next movie sounds cool, too: Clive will play an undercover agent at the center of the center of the world's cocaine trade in Cartagena. The film is named for a Colombian city, and if you don't know, the good blow comes from Colombia. I'm not advocating, but facts is facts. I'm not sure if Cartagena is a major player in the drug industry, but you'd think so, given that they're naming a movie about drugs after it.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Michael Ross will write the script, and while I didn't love his screenplay for Turistas, it at least felt authentic in that stranger-in-a-strange-land way that Cartagena will surely replicate. Mark Cuban's 2929 Productions will help finance the film, which has no target date at this point.

You've got to be a little bit geeked about Clive Owen on the run from drug dealers and other intelligence agents through the dangerous but visually arresting Colombian landscapes. Or is that just me?
