Kristen Stewart Loves Rock N' Roll

She's the belle of the ball right now, so it's not surprising that Kristen Stewart is getting lots of job offers. Even before Twilight, the 18-year-old was plucking great roles in films like Into the Wild, and in the past week or so, word spread that she would be in the $10 - $12 million ballpark for the Twilight sequel, New Moon.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Stewart has also just signed on to play a young Joan Jett in a musical bio-pic about the influential all-girl punk group The Runaways, which Jett co-founded when she was a teenager.

I'm not sure too many people would line up to see a movie about Jett (although since critics have dubbed her "the female Chuck Berry," she's obviously due more respect than she gets from the public), and I have even more doubts about interest in The Runaways, a tempestuous, battling band that was around for only a few years, never had a top ten song or album, and broke up before Jett scored with "I Love Rock N' Roll."

Still, the group was big overseas, and a lot of people are familiar with "Cherry Bomb," so maybe there's lingering interest in Japan and Europe on that front, but the movie probably won't have the wide appeal of, say, Walk the Line.

So how do you generate interest? By signing Kristen Stewart, for starters. I actually think this is a terrific casting decision, and if executive producer Jett and director Floria Sigismondi can cast the other four key band members with that kind of success, then young audiences will show up to see the actresses, and then they might get hooked by the music and the story.

Who will play Lita Ford, I wonder?

The biggest question here is what guy will they get to play Lita Ford? Shia Lebouf? No, too feminine.
