'Lost' Won't Be Found in the Multiplex

Lost returns for
its fifth season in January, and with the new season four DVD on the way next
Tuesday, two of the show's driving forces,
Carlton Cuse
and Damon
Lindelof recently participated in a
roundtable
interview to talk about where the series has been and where it's
going.
One of the subjects discussed was the possibility of a
Lost movie, which is different from the probability of a Lost movie. "The answer
is no," Lindelof said flatly, kind of contradicting his never say never approach
back in October. "At least [it won't be made] by us. We've always felt that the
show should definitively end the same place it started ... on television."

It's not that the two writer-producers, along with co-creator J.J. Abrams don't see good cinematic components in Lost, but rather that the audience has very clear and very different expectations.
"To bring our characters to some sort of cliffhanger where the audience gets none of the answers that they really care about, and then say, 'Now give us 10 bucks. Buy some popcorn, and we'll give you the rest!' [That] would pretty much be the worst thing ever."
Yes. Agreed. And now that we know when that definitive end is (May 2010), we can start filling in the remaining gaps, hoping that we don't have to deal with a busload of new characters, and move swiftly forward (and since it's Lost, also backwards) to the big payoff.
