Rumor Patrol: Keanu Reeves Denies 'Speed 3'
Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 3:20AM
When they
popped up
like weeds on Monday, we chose not to report on the rumors that
Keanu Reeves
was being penciled in for a third
Speed
movie. We were busy chasing other rumors that day.
But now we can talk all about it, especially
since Keanu himself says it won't happen. Reeves has
The Day the Earth Stood Still coming out next
week, which makes it a great time to ask him about these latest rumors, and
IGN
did exactly that.
"I honestly don't know anything about it,"
Reeves said, leaving very little room for doubt. "I don't know if they are going
to make another one, and if they are it won't be with me... honestly!"
Of course, we all know that
Jan de Bont
and Sandra
Bullock are really the straws that stir this drink. I mean, Keanu
wasn't in Speed II: Cruise Control, and look how well that worked out.
That's a joke.
It wouldn't surprise me if Fox was hoping for
another Speed movie, just as all studios hope to keep franchises alive
forever, because they're steady money. But as far as actual plans to make a
third one? Doesn't appear as though it will have Keanu, and I think even Bullock
would be wary of signing up. So why not just invent a new franchise you can
revisit a few years later?

Why not just re-boot the franchise with Paul Walker?
