Depp, Burton to Make 'Dark Shadows' Next Summer
Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 4:00AM
I don't know if there's anybody in Hollywood whose word is gospel, but if
there is, it might be
Richard Zanuck. He's a legendary producer,
having produced everything from Jaws to The Sound of Music, and
his father was one of the architects of the industry. Zanuck is probably not one
of those guys who will talk about something if it's not going to happen.
He's one of the producers for
Tim Burton's
Alice in Wonderland, and in fact, he's produced
four other Burton movies in the past, so when he talks about a project with Tim
Burton, again, you can be pretty sure it's on the level. And that's what makes
his comments to
Collider so interesting:

"I'm doing next summer - with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp - Dark Shadows, which is an old 70s soap opera here in the United States," Zanuck announced. We knew Dark Shadows was on the way, but we didn't know what the turnaround time would be. Sooner rather than later, I guess.
"It's his next project," said the producer of Burton's crowded dance card.
As for Depp, the role of Barnabas Collins is a perfect fit, and it's something he's kind of been training for his whole life. "He owns it," Zanuck says of the rights to the show. "He was obsessed and as a young person, he used to sneak out of school to get home to turn on the television set. It was a very popular show for four or five seasons."
So, yeah, that's pretty cool. Depp will no doubt be working constantly for the next two years, probably, and whenever Burton moves on from Alice, it appears that this will be the next collaboration between one of the most fruitful combinations in the movies.

And this makes what, the seventh collaboration between Burton and Depp? I know directors like to work with the same actors a lot, but this is getting ridiculous.
Shut your trap and enjoy the wonderful team
Seven or eight, yeah, but I'd rather see Burton work with Depp than without him.
