'Veronica Mars' Movie Still Possible
Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 7:47PM
Frankly, I'm a little surprised there has neither been
more call for a
Veronica Mars movie nor more movement to make
it a reality. The show was pertty darned successful, all things considered, and
while Kristen
Bell may not be an A-lister yet, you've got to strike while the
iron's hot, or at least in the damn fire. Otherwise: Dirty Dancing: Havana
Nights.
But that's not to say it's a dead issue. Michael
Ausiello from
the fifth letter of the alphabet got in touch with
Rob Thomas
(not the matchbox 20 guy) to find out if he's ever going to work on a script for
a Veronica movie.

"I haven't gotten far on my VM movie outline," the show's creator admitted. "I thought I had the idea broken, but I've hit a wall in the final act that I haven't quite figured out. And with Cupid and Party Down occupying 80 hours a week, and a new baby boy occupying the remaining hours, I haven't nailed it down"
He added, "I'm hopeful that I can find the time to figure it out over the Christmas holidays."
Now that might be the sort of thing you say when you don't want someone to go away empty-handed, but at least it sounds like he's working through some ideas. Personally, I think the story has potential for a small-ish trilogy. You make 'em for $10 - $15 million and they give you $30 - $40 million in return, that sort of thing.
And I'm just speculating, but maybe that's why Thomas is having trouble wrapping up the outline. Perhaps he's trying to keep some doors open for the future. It's better to work that way than make one great movie and be forced later to revive something that had a definitive conclusion.

- Although I would never admit this in public, and it seems so much easier to say this via the internet, my roomies and I became OBSESSED with VM this past summer, and watched every season and episode we could get our hands on. I loved it, and felt like I was reliving my days of 90210 and other chessy high school dramas. Make the movie and my butt in that seat.
Me too. i never watched the show when it was out, but i started watching every episode via DVD earlier this year. I now own all three seasons and LOVE it. I would definitly go see the movie.
when it switched to the cw during its third season, i started watching. i own all three seasons now and have watched each episode multiple times. i relly hope there is a movie. i thinf she sill be working for the fbi.
i am super happy about it. but it is going to take a little longer just because they have to make the movie understandable to those who have not seen the television show
but maybe in the movie it will have flash backs or something so the audience will understand
