Will Smith Wants a 'Hancock' Sequel
Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 5:33PM
Hey, who's ready for more
Hancock?
No, really:
Will Smith says we're going to get it whether we want it or not.

Actually, Hancock wasn't all bad, but oh, the movie
it could have been...that's the stuff. Instead, it was a neat idea wrapped up in
way too damn many effects and a third act that was just a little too Die Hard
with a Vengeance for what they should have been trying to accomplish.

Still, Will Smith is well be the gold standard for box office success these days, and Hancock, even with direct competition from The Dark Knight two weeks after it was released, made over $200 million in the U.S., and over $600 million worldwide. Yikes! So you can't use the argument that nobody liked the movie.
JoBlo asked Smith if he'd ever play another superhero, and he shot into full-on Hancock mode, explaining that there were a lot of "unexplored characters" in the Hanockverse that lend themselves to a sequel, adding that we'd "definitely" see a part two in a few years.
I'm guessing a Son of Hancock or an Evil Twin of Hancock, what about you?

After finally seeing Hancock the other night, I have to say that I liked the concept, but it could be ironed out a bit.
Charlize Theron makes it clear that Big Willie is only scratching the surface of his true powers, due to the amnesia and all...
But it's all a little too "Superman Lives" with the "humanity needs you" aspect of things. I mean, since when did humanity need a bunch of 'gods" who tear shit up all the time? My taxes are high enough as it is.
And the early appeal of Hancock is that he is a "flawed hero" in the same vein as Bad Santa. But the Macguffin (geez I hate that I learned that word this year) is that he's a depressed, forgettful, supernatural being who takes his known powers for granted.
So, if we get another handful of Hancock, where do we go? Outerspace? Heaven? Mt. Olympus?
Wherever the producers go, please please, PLEASE...
Take Mr. Jason Bateman with you.
Yeah, and is Hancock even his real name?
His name is not Hancock. When he first realized his amnesia, the nurse asked him for his "John Hancock", and he thoght that it was his name, when she was really just asking for his signature.
A "Son of Hancock" or "Evil Twin" style of film I very much doubt! During dialogue between Smith and Theron in the film it is mentioned that "We were built in pairs" this could mean that future films could introduce one or more characters wrongly thought to be deceased with similar or greater powers then the ones seen in Hancock. Not only that but, who built them? Where were they built? Why were they built in the first place? Lots of things to explore without making up lame excuses to make poor sequels.
More please!
I personally cant wait!
