'Watchmen' Video Journal - Art Direction
Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 3:00AM
It's the 6th of the month and that means we get another
Watchmen Video Journal. We're due two more of
these before the graphic novel adaptation finally arrives on March 6th. Of
course, it may not pop up in theaters then, depending on the outcome of legal
hearings about rights and money and stuff, which begin - conveniently enough -
on January 6th.

This time around, we get a closer look at the art direction of Zack Snyder's version of Alan Moore's world. Anytime they do one of those comparisons between an image from the graphic novel and the same shot in the film, the attention to detail is pretty staggering, although it never looks like everything is carefully assembled. To the great credit of the design team on Watchmen, it all looks cohesive and natural.
So enjoy the new journal, and as soon as we get one without the subtitles, we'll make the switch.

I'm glad the hype machine for this film has come in little bursts rather than a huge campaign. I'd like to think Warner Bros. wants to be careful with how much they saturate the market. After all, this really is the next big event movie, and three months is a long time to wait in the Tentpole Era. But so far so good, I guess.
