Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 6:39PM Roger Ebert's Best Films of 2008
I was immediately struck by my own disagreement with the
headline at
Roger Ebert.com: "The best films of 2008...and there were a lot of
them." I've been trying to start my ten best list for over a week, and I can't
get past number seven.

Ebert, the gold standard of American critics, says,
"Look at my 20 titles, and you tell me which 10 you would cut." I could give that a shot, I suppose,
but instead, I'll just present my own list in about two weeks, after we go
through a mountain of DVDs that have arrived here in the past month.

Here's Ebert's list, which, as has been has practice, is in alphabetical order:
Ballast
The Band's Visit
Che
Chop Shop
The Dark Knight
Doubt
The Fall
Frost/Nixon
Frozen River
Happy-Go-Lucky
Iron Man
Milk
Rachel Getting Married
The Reader
Revolutionary Road
Shotgun Stories
Slumdog Millionaire
Synecdoche, New York
W.
Wall-E
Ebert also lists his Special Jury Prize winner and his top five documentaries.
