Mickey Rourke Wrestles with 'Sin City' Sequel

There have been some updates on the Sin City front over the past few days. It owes a lot to a confluence of talent from the original film, all of whom have reasons to talk this December: Director Frank Miller has The Spirit, Rosario Dawson co-stars in Seven Pounds, and Mickey Rourke is attracting Oscar consideration for The Wrestler.

Miller and Dawson say it's a go, and shooting will begin in April. And while Rourke had seemed open to returning for Sin City 2 if certain conditions were met (Robert Rodriguez co-directing again among them), he tells Superhero Hype he doesn't see himself coming back as Marv.

"No, I'm not interested in that right now. That's not a reality right now. It's pissing in the wind," Rourke tells Superhero Hype. "There's different factions going different directions there. I don't know. That's three hours of make up and I'm claustrophobic, so I'm going to have to work something out."

Even in that brief paragraph, Rourke doesn't seem entirely sure about his position, at first saying he's not interested and then saying he'd have to work something out, which sounds like a contract stonewall or something.

I guess, if I were in his shoes - and that would be a really weird experience for me - I'd want to make sure Marv was a big factor in the second film, or else Rourke could be spending his time feeding off the largesse that accompanies an Oscar nomination.

And he's right: Making a sequel two months after being up for Best Actor is a rather limiting prospect. But I'd still like to see him do it.

mickey rourke is a goddamn fool if he doesn't make 'sin city 2'. if it weren't for the first movie, he wouldn't have made a comeback and he most certainly wouldn't have a career now. he owes any semblance of fame he now has to that movie.
