Say Bonjour to Animated Short, 'Dans La Tête'
Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 2:42AM
Man, I love animated short films. You see an awful lot
of visual imagination at work, and very often, perfect examples of efficient
storytelling. The Pixar shorts are pretty well-known and beloved, but they don't
have a corner on the market.
A couple of months ago, we shared with you
Oktapodi, a remarkably entertaining two minutes
a then-student named Julien Bocabeille. He now does some work for Dreamworks.
Here's another French short, although it runs about six minutes long. Dans la
Tête (In the Head) comes to us from Grégory Damour, Maxime Entringer,
Anthony Gilles, and Alan Sellier.
That's really good. Maybe not a big ball of sunshine, but
a very good visual style that really needs to be seen. Find out more about the
production - and practice your romance languages - by visiting the official
Dans la Tête site.

I loved this and actually laughed out loud in the middle when he was trying to die, better...
I'm glad it worked out for the Oktapodi guy.
The above short was OK but it would have been more original if there hadn't already been a film called Groundhog Day.
Still, the end was good.
I love seeing Tarantino-esque blood and guts in a Pixar-like cartoon. The MPAA would give this an NC-17 rating to be sure, because America can't handle this sort of stuff...
If Disney was smart, they'd start a production house to develop adult feature length animation using these innovative directors. If they don't catch on stateside, they would certainly catch on overseas, right?
Last I checked, Bolt wasn't actually shattering box-office records, so it couldn't hurt to reinvent a little, could it?
Groundhog Day really? I mean I see it but to compare the two, to even suggest that groundhog day holds all the rights to repeating a part of your life over and over is just wrong.
Good, though I was hoping for the happy ending that could of been instead of what it is.
Well, it's just not original; which is what I wrote, if you care to read it again.
