Friday, February 1, 2008 at 6:00AM James Gandolfini Gets 'Sexual'...Wait, Don't Stop Reading
James Gandolfini will co-star and produce Sexual Healing, a film covering the last years of singer Marvin Gaye's life that will feature Jesse L. Martin in the lead role.
The indie flick will be carved out of Steven Turner's book, Trouble Man (although Divided Soul by rock biographer David Ritz is one of the best books about a musician I've ever read).Though the recent article in Variety announcing Gandolfini's involvement doesn't mention how or even if the film will handle Gaye's bizarre and untimely death, I don't know what good it does you to begin a story as Gaye flees Motown, goes out on his own European isolation, and forms a business relationship with a promoter who helped reclaim his former glory if you just stop right there, less than a year before his own father shoots him.
The film, which I've been waiting to materialize in some form for 15 years, will start production in April. Can't get behind that title, though...
