Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 12:15PM Box Office - 'Kingdom' Anything But Forbidden
Outpacing the heavily-advertised Forgetting Sarah Marshall for three straight days, the martial arts-lite The Forbidden Kingdom was a convincing enough winner at the weekend box office. With a $20 million haul against good competition, The Forbidden Kingdom could signal a return to commercial viability for Jet Li and Jackie Chan, but because they've struggled to find audiences in the past few years (with the exception of Rush Hour 3), perhaps they're only viable together.
While The Big Picture felt strongly that Sarah Marshall would do really well as the only new comedy, it wound up a little short of the mark. However, with a modest $30 million cost compared to a much higher production budget for Forbidden Kingdom, Sarah Marshall could have the last laugh.
The rest of the top ten offered only one surprise, and it wasn't that Al Pacino's 88 Minutes was fourth or that 21 is finally starting to show its age. No, it's that the number nine movie of the weekend was the new Intelligent Design documentary, Expelled. The controversial new flick made over $3 million in roughly 1,000 theaters.
The Top Five:
1 - The Forbidden Kingdom ($20.9 million)
2 - Forgetting Sarah Marshall ($17.3 million)
3 - Prom Night ($9.1 million)
4 - 88 Minutes ($6.8 million)
5 - Nim's Island ($5.6 million)

This is a fab post Elle! I have tried to be more accepting of myself. Its a longer process than I hoped, but I like to think I'm getting there.
