Lindsay Lohan Not Good Enough for Charles Manson

lilo7.jpgHere's a statement that we're getting used to; it's been a bad week for Lindsay Lohan.

Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood is reporting that LiLo is now out of the upcoming indie flick, The Manson Girls. I don't agree with Finke that this film is a sign that Lohan has "hitting bottom." Far from it, in fact. But getting dumped from the crime drama about the young women basically brainwashed into worshipping Charles Manson might be ground zero.

Under the headline "Lindsay Lohan Now Hollywood Pariah," Finke describes how Lohan has been booted because, according to a source, nobody wants to work with her. Lohan's been trouble before, particularly on the set of Georgia Rule, but I guess I never figured she was still that toxic. I think one element to consider here is that maybe the script isn't very good.

I haven't read it, so I don't know, but writer-director Matthew Bright really only has one career highlight in nearly 30 years - 1996's Freeway with Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland - so it's entirely possible that The Manson Girls is just a gratuitous, drug-filled, sickeningly violent project that scares off "name" actors, the kind of performers Finke says won't go near this project because of Lohan. After all, Deadline Hollywood does say this project smacks of Lohan scraping the bottom of the barrel, so why would anyone with a career heading in the right direction sign on?

But Lohan is still attached to two upcoming projects, the Tango-laced Dare to Love Me and the Renaissance Festival comedy Ye Olde Times with Jack Black and Ann-Margret, and she's hoping to make a splash a la Britney Spears on TV this month with a stop on Ugly Betty. Betty producer Silvio Horta is singing another tune about her, saying, "Lindsay was terrific - a real pleasure. She came in early and was very pleasant," and revealed that she'll appear in five episodes next season in addition to the May 22nd season finale.

So I'm not sure The Manson Girls is another nail in the coffin. It can't help her status, mind you, particularly in the same week that she's being accused of stealing a model's clothes (what?), but I don't think her career is over just yet. I mean, she still has to have her public image temporarily bolstered by the release of a sex tape, right?
