Mike Judge Heads Back to the Office

Mike Judge, who trumped even Beavis & Butt-Head with Office Space, is getting back to the cubicles with Extract, which he tells MTV he believes will be an evil-twin sequel to his previous worker drone comedy.

"Extract is the working title — I'd written it a long time ago, actually, like seven years ago or something, and when I first saw Arrested Development on DVD, I just thought, 'Man, this is the guy, this guy is really good,' " Judge said of Jason Bateman, who will play the lead in the new film.

"He's the owner of a company that makes vanilla extract and orange extract, and that kind of thing. Office Space was sympathetic to the employees, and the bosses and the managers were the a--holes. This one is sympathetic to Jason Bateman's character as the owner, and all the employees are the a--holes. ... It's another workplace comedy."

Miramax will work with Judge on his new film, and it's a good thing; Fox had zero faith in Office Space at the time of its release and they were ultimately proven very, very wrong. Then the same studio murdered Judge's Idiocracy back in 2006.

And here's a nice touch: Judge is hopeful that he can work with Stephen Root and Gary Cole again, who, as Milton and Lumberg, had some of the best scenes in Office Space. "I would have loved to just keep writing [Office Space] scenes and just keep working with these guys. It was just really fun," said the writer-director.

Without revealing too much about Extract, Judge did describe a very funny subplot, saying, "There's a B-story of Jason Bateman's character trying, in a drunken state of mind, to hire a gigolo to have sex with his wife, so he doesn't feel guilty about doing the same thing, and that all falls apart. He wants to [cheat on his wife]."

Can't wait.
