Oliver Stone's 'W.' Gets Rumsfeld, Release Date

brolinw1.jpgIt has become one of the most talked about movies of the year in a time when the most talked about movies of the year are their most talked about. But it's not Indiana Jones or The Dark Knight. No, it's Oliver Stone's political bio-pic of President George W. Bush, simply called W., and now it'll be in theaters both in time for awards consideration and the election.

Lionsgate recently announced that W. will open on October 17th and shooting officially begins today. "We don't really know much about Mr. Bush beyond the controlled images we've been allowed to see on TV. This movie's taking a bold stab at looking behind that curtain," said Stone. "I'm real pleased that Lionsgate has the independence necessary to bring this provocative story to an American audience."

We also have a more complete picture of the cast: Josh Brolin as Bush, Elizabeth Banks as the First Lady, Ellen Burstyn and James Cromwell as Bush 41 and Barbara Bush, Ioan Gruffudd as Tony Blair, Thandie Newton as Condoleezza Rice, Jeffrey Wright as Colin Powell, and a new name has been added to the ensemble, Scott Glenn as Donald Rumsfeld.

That really only leaves Dick Cheney to be cast. Stone's original choice had to back out at the last minute. "I'm so totally out of town," said Satan in a statement.

There has been speculation that Paul Giamatti would play the vampire (or Karl Rove), but no confirmation has yet been offered on that point. I will say they better hurry, what with the shooting already underway.
