Cinemax Premieres Documentary Shot Entirely in Second Life

Premiering tonight on Cinemax is the documentary Molotov Alva and His Search for a Creator. What makes this documentary different is that it was shot entirely in Second Life. Now, even that much may take some explaining for you. Second Life is an virtual online world created by its residents, or people who sign up and join the world. You create an avatar and live, essentially, a second life, where you can meet new friends, make buildings, earn "money,"  etc.

And yes, now there's an ingenious new way of using Second Life, as Douglas Gayeton has chronicled the life of his avatar Molotov Alva after he leaves his home and his life behind to search for a higher meaning...inside an online world.

The documentary is a collection of chapters about Molotov's journey, beginning with why he discarding his straight world life to live online. If you're new to the whole virtual online thing, this probably requires a bit more setup. Fortunately, there's this video from Reuters that does the job for us:

You can watch the pilot episode of Molotov Alva and His Search for a Creator on YouTube, and the full documentary debuts tonight at 8pm Eastern and Pacific on Cinemax.
