It's not terribly surprising to learn that every
principal figure is returning for
Transformers 2. The surprise is that it took
this long to set it up. Director
Michael Bay: Back. We know, too, that
Shia LaBeouf and
the writers (at least in some capacity) are returning, and there have even been
recent updates on the status of
Josh Duhamel,
Megan Fox,
Tyrese Gibson and
John Turturro, all of whom are back for another round.

But it wouldn't be a sequel without someone new, and
that someone, it appears, is
Rainn Wilson. The man who brought beets back as
Dwight K. Schrute on The Office
will play a college professor in T2...oh, damn,
someone already used that abbreviation before. Uh, can we go with 2ransformers?
Anyway, Wilson will play Shia's college prof, although we don't know yet if
he'll go on the run from the giant interplanetary robots or not.
It's strong casting for a supporting player, in much the
same way John Turturro really panned out in the first one. It should be a great
move for Wilson, as well, who probably duplicated much of his Office audience
with a brief appearance in Juno and is likely to do the same in this summer's
The Rocker. Unquestionably 2ransformers will introduce him to millions of potential new viewers.
There was talk in the past couple of weeks that Jonah
Hill was also in discussions for the sequel, but apparently the two sides
couldn't come to an agreement.
Earlier, we mentioned that it's a surprise that a year
has passed since the first movie and they're just getting the second one
solidified. I actually believe that it speaks well for the franchise. They
didn't rush what they clearly could have. Well before Transformers opened, you
had a feeling a sequel would be in the offing. Clearly, everyone involved wanted
to do it again, so why didn't they pull an Iron Man and announce a sequel three
days after it was released?
Well, Iron Man already has that story mapped out, at
least in very general terms. They know where they want this thing to head. With
Transformers, I don't know if Point B was as well established, but I think
letting it come together slowly, seeing what the script looked like, making sure
everyone who wanted to be involved could be involved, means there's a good chance we'll
get a very solid sequel.
Hopefully, they'll trim eight to ten minutes of giant
Transformer war out of the end this time, but it's hard to have been a fan of
the first one and not be excited about the way 2ransformers is being handled.

"Thats one diddle that can't be undid Bumblebee."
~Rumored line from Transformers after the trusty Camaro supposedly impregnates Megan Fox.
I heard that Jonah Hill has been cast too...any truth to that rumor?
No Jonah Hill in this sequel...look for penis-drawings on Transformerbots elsewhere...
