In Mirrors, Sutherland is a mall cop who's facing something worse than shoplifters and worse than the 6am mall walkers. Yes, apparently the mirrors in one of the stores opens up a world of evil.

On the surface, this sounds like one of the movies Kiefer would have taken when his career had taken a turn for the worse. However, Mirrors pairs him with Alexandre Aja, one of the most inventive horror directors working today, so let's hope this is more High Tension and less The Hills Have Eyes. Nothing against the Wes Craven remake, but it devolved into becoming more about the gore rather the substance that was both inherent in the original and on display in the bloody High Tension. More of that, please.
Kudos to Kiefer for recognizing a director on the rise, though; most actors with his leverage would probably pass on something like this, so if the script is there and the scares are there, Kiefer may have made a terrific business move.
We'll find out how good a move it is on August 15th, when Mirrors, starring the lovely Amy Smart and the even lovelier Paula Patton, shows up in theaters.
If you're curious to know a little more, here's a brand new behind-the-scenes look at Mirrors featuring the guy Julia Roberts left at the altar. You know, on second thought, that's probably not how Kiefer likes being introduced.
