Amanda Peet Counting Down the Days Till '2012'
Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 11:45PM
2009 will be the year of
2012. Bear with me: Director
Roland Emmerich, who has made both disaster
movies and disastrous movies, is hoping for the former next year when 2012
arrives in the summer.
Emmerich's dealing with a top-notch cast that includes
John Cusack,
Chiwetel Ejiofor,
Thandie Newton,
Danny Glover and
Oliver Platt. And tonight,
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that
Amanda Peet will play the female lead in the
film.
What is 2012? Come on, don't you read the Mayan
calendar? It's only the end of the freakin' world. Duh.
So that's kind of the jumping off point for the movie.
As with previous Emmerich ensembles, like The Day After Tomorrow and
Independence Day, 2012 will rely on the guile of its melting pot of
characters to save humanity from total annihilation. Peet will play the Cuse's
ex-wife. She has since remarried a wealthy man and John is struggling to become
a writer while driving a limo to support their kids. Touching, isn't it?
I have no word on what roles the other cast members will
play, but Danny Glover will reportedly be "too old for this shit." The movie
starts shooting in July and will be in theaters next July.
Here's the weird thing about pairing Peet and Cusack,
though. They were in Gregory Hoblit's sturdy thrilla, Identity, a few
years ago. John has a history of dating women he works with, and man, is Amanda
Peet really his type. At least you'd think he'd take a charge or two at her. And
now they're divorced without ever having dated. That guy can't catch a break.

Well, now don't feel too bad-- they seemed pretty flirtatious when paired together in last year's Martian Child...
