Colin Boyd in John Cusack, Video
As we know,
John Cusack is a fiercely political guy. He's
been at odds with the Bush administration since it began over one thing or
another and, in fact, there was leading up to 2004, a grass roots Cusack for
President campaign, of which he had no part.
Of course, he was making movies like Must Love Dogs
then, so he wouldn't have been elected anyway.
It's not a surprise thought, that as we head into what
looks like an intriguing four or five months of political discourse in America,
Cusack is speaking his mind again. He recently cut a :30 ad for MoveOn.org, and
while we're not endorsing anyone, Cusack certainly seems to be.
A lot of people have big issues with celebrities
speaking their mind on these issues, but I think that's ridiculous. I think it's
the right thing to do, actually...so long as you're informed. It doesn't matter
to me which side you're on if you're passionate and knowledgeable. Having said that, you should be accountable for your words and stand by them even, celebrities, and remember that words alone mean a hell of a lot less than actions.
Morons and
blowhards can keep their mouths shut (and I'm a little tired of hearing that
Susan Sarandon will move to Canada if McCain wins in November), but intelligent
political discourse is always a good approach and we need more of it. Especially
now.
