Sacha Baron Cohen's 'Bruno' Gets a Release Date
Monday, June 16, 2008 at 10:12AM
It's usually the major action movies that circle a date on
their calendar this far into the future, but
Cinematical reports (via
Box Office Mojo) that
Sacha Baron Cohen's next comedy will hit
theaters on May 15th, opposite Angels and Demons, the Da Vinci Code
prequel.
So that gives you 11 months to memorize the title:
Brüno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose
of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay
Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt.
With a name like that, you'd be correct to assume that it's
pretty much the same drill as
Borat with a different character. I agree with
Cinematical that releasing the movie opposite Angels and Demons reflects
a huge amount of confidence in Cohen's abilities to draw a crowd, which has
remained untested since Borat was released almost a couple years ago.
It will be a sure thing as far as profitability is
concerned; Borat cost under $20 million and made over $250 million
worldwide.

I don't think it's going to be a competitor against Angels and Demons. Those two movies are going to attract totally opposite people, rather than give them a tough decision.
