Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 9:11AM The Steve Carell Interview: Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson
This Friday, Get Smart will square off against The Love Guru in an unusual comedy vs. comedy opening weekend. You would have to think Steve Carell has the momentum over Mike Myers, if only because Carell has done about a half-dozen really funny things in the past five years, and Mike Myers has appeared in Cat in the Hat.
The rest of the cast in Get Smart is solid: Anne Hathaway as Agent 99, Dwayne Johnson as the super cool Agent 23, Alan Arkin as The Chief, plus a lot of role players like David Koechner, Terry Crews, and on and on. Still, I don't necessarily believe that it will do huge business, but it should prove that people really like Steve Carell, so whatever that number is, I guess.
I have to admit that I wish this "interview" with Hathaway and Johnson were about a minute longer. In particular, it shows what a good comic actor the former pro wrestler has, but that's been apparent for a long, long time. There's a reason he has succeeded where other wrestlers before him have not.

Get Smart looks okay over all though Steve Carell seems to be veering more and more toward not so funny slapstick humor
