George Carlin (1937 - 2008)
Sunday, June 22, 2008 at 10:54PM
George Carlin, the legendary stand-up
comedian and a vital figure in the counterculture movement that sprang up in the
1960s, has passed away at the age of 71.
Reuters reports that Carlin died at
Saint John's Health Center in
Santa Monica around 6pm
Sunday night after being admitted to the hospital earlier in the day for chest
pains.
As edgy and intellectual as any comedian who ever graced
a stage, Carlin became best known for his routine called "Seven Words You Can
Never Say On Television." The FCC ruled that a broadcast of the routine was in
fact indecent and that those words could not be heard on public airwaves when
children might be listening. The battle raged on until it was finally heard by
the U.S. Supreme Court, giving Carlin and the words in question more visibility
than anyone would have ever imagined.
In case you don't know what those words are...

I am truly devastated. He will always be a hero to me.
So much I can say about the man, but I like how he began his last HBO special by telling Lance Armstrong and esp. Dr. Phil to F- off; truly one of a kind...
