Colin Boyd in Bruce Campbell
namebruceposter.jpgYou know who's cool? Bruce Effing Campbell. Seriously, do you know anyone who says, "Oh, he's OK" or "I've never really been a fan"? No, to see him is to dig him.

That had to be some of the thinking behind the movie My Name is Bruce, a low-budget flick in which Campbell is mistaken for Ash, his iconic Evil Dead alter-ego. That's an important development, because in the flick he has to fight monsters. How groovy is that?

But the movie, which Campbell also directed, sat around and sat around; I had fallen under the impression it snuck onto video without anyone being the wiser. Apparently, though, a theatrical release is still planned, and it's supposed to come out later this year.

Talking to Shock Till You Drop, Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Comics gave a rosy outlook for the film's future:

"Some people maybe thought the film fell out or that there was something wrong with it. We did our shoot, put it in the can and the studio that financed it liked it so much they gave us more money to do a second shoot. We beefed it up so it could go into the theaters."

Want more good news? After the scheduled October theatrical release, there might be a sequel called - what else - My Name is Still Bruce.
