'Hancock' Poster, Made in Taiwan

At the end of each year, I always like compile the best movie posters I've seen during the previous 12 months. That was pretty pointless before the internet, but now it's pretty easy and worthwhile, I think. Almost invariably, the best movie posters aren't from the United States. They're from England or Germany or Japan.

There's a different aesthetic, particularly in Europe, I find, that just doesn't translate to American audiences. Our posters seem to be very blunt by comparison, as if there's less thought and the companies responsible just want to get the two or three big faces on the one sheet, Photoshop them to death, and throw the title on top.

So, as much as we like sharing movie posters with you here at The Big Picture, we really like sharing foreign posters with you, 'cause they's diff'rnt.

Now, I don't love this new Taiwanese Hancock poster, but it's better than the U.S. poster, which is just Will Smith's scruffy face and thecity he protects reflecting into his sunglasses. I even like that poster. At least it's not like everything else. But this new one has a little more life to it.

Surprisingly, even though this was released several weeks ago, I haven't seen much of it anywhere and actually had to search "international Hancock banner" to get on the trail. It won't be in our year-end discussion or anything, but I kind of like the imagery.
