Go Under the Cowl with 'Batman: Gotham Knight'

I don't usually go to David Letterman for my movie news, but he said earlier this week that he'd had a chance to see The Dark Knight - which he mistakenly called The Dark Prince once, understandable since in some circles that's a nickname for CBS President Les Moonves - but he said, basically, look out for Heath Ledger.

I think we kind of suspected as much, but it's good to get confirmation from someone who probably couldn't care less.

Before we get to that likely milestone, and in terms of 2008 cinema I think you throw out the word "likely," we have to get through Batman: Gotham Knight.

I'm repeating myself, but I'm almost as excited for this anime collection of animated short Batman adventures that fill in some holes for us in the narrative of the character between the previous film, Batman Begins, and the new one.

We've already shared a clip this week, and I have zero problem doing it again. This is a featurette from the DVD that we found over at MTV. It's not that long, but it gives you a little glimpse of the styles of animation that will be seen in greater detail in Gotham Knight and it provides a mythological perspective on the character and his relationship with his villains as well. And yes, Batman does indeed have a mythos. He's one of the greatest American heroes ever created, after all, albeit a complicated and moody one.

Get your hands on Batman: Gotham Knight, in stores July 8th.

Doesn't matter what price they are going to charge for this, it must be purchased and watched before dark knight can be seen, and I think any fan would agree.

Which Japanese studio is producing this? How deep was Chris Nolan's involvement in the execution of the anime?
