Helena Bonham Carter Sought for 'Terminator Salvation' Villain
There has been cautious optimism about the upcoming
Terminator trilogy since it was announced that
Christian Bale
would play John Connor.
The cast has filled out rather nicely since then - funny
how that works - although I still question whether
McG
is the right director. Then again, I said the same thing about Jonathon Mostow
for T3, and that turned out better than I expected.
And now there's news that a new, more-than-reputable
actor will join the ensemble that already includes
Anton Yelchin,
Sam Worthington,
Moon Bloodgood,
Common, and
Bryce Dallas Howard.
WENN is reporting that
Helena Bonham Carter
"has been offered a small but pivotal
role" in the film.
Last year,
Bonham Carter received a Golden Globe nomination for Sweeney Todd, and
she already has an Oscar nomination for The Wings of the Dove back in
1997. She also has a good gauge for blockbusters and culturally relevant films,
which is a rare quality. From Fight Club to the Harry Potter
Series to her work with fiancé Tim Burton.
There were some leaks about the plot for
Terminator Salvation that have since been
deflected by McG, but I wonder what this small but pivotal role might be?
The Los Angeles Times says she's discussing the
role of the "lead villain." Queen of the cybogs? She's best when she's bad, in
my opinion, because she does it so well. I don't know if there is such a thing
as a queen of the cyborgs or not, but I like the idea. I'm sticking with that
for now.
