Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 10:09AM Michael Bay Makes 'Transformers 2' Promises, Plus New On-Set Pics
During Sunday night's MTV Movie Awards, director
Michael Bay announced that
Transformers 2 would begin filming the very
next day. Now, last week, when it was revealed that all the major players were
coming back and the only significant cast change was the addition of
Rainn Wilson, we thought that was a very good
sign.
And now, Michael Bay gives us even more reason to be
cautiously optimistic - yeah, I know: Michael Bay. Who knew?
He tells MTV that Transformers 2 will be
its own entity and not simply a way to make money before the story resolves in a
threequel.
"You know how those sequels they do the second one so
you go see the third one? [Transformers 2] is it, Bay insists. "First one
was just introducing, setting up stuff, so we can go a lot farther. Let’s just
say [this] is not a lame sequel.” Of course, Bay is extremely familiar with lame
sequels; he directed Bad Boys 2.
But does he mean that Transformers 2 is the last
movie in the franchise? "[Transformers 2] is it," could mean the end of
the road, and in fact, in the context of his statement, I don't know what else
it could mean. But I doubt this is the last movie in the series. Call it a
hunch.
The one thing about Bay's update that doesn't float my
boat is how many robots will reportedly be fighting at the end of the film: Over
20. The worst thing about Transformers was the final conflict. Too hard
to follow, lasted too long, and was just a giant effects wankfest. Hard to see
how that'll be toned down in the sequel if they're adding robots.
If you want to see a bunch of new photos from the set of
2ransformers, head over to
TFW 2005. Here's a couple we like, just to get
you in the mood.

Wow the bottom shot looks good
Now just imagine it with with too many robots fighting in the foreground.
I don't mean to brag, but I will...I live a town away from this shoot and I was standing pretty much exactly from that vantage point a few nights ago. It was difficult to see much aside from those helicopters and green neon chinese lettering all over the place. I did see some other helicopters with chinese letters on them (can be seen at my blog). I was hoping to see some explosions but the shoots were planned to go from 4 pm-7 am Mon-Wed. and apparently Bay waited until very late Wednesday (Early Thursday) to set things off.
