Sam Raimi Wants to Direct 'Spider-Man 4'
Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 4:09PM
Last summer, it looked like
Sam Raimi was ready to walk away from the
Spider-Man franchise, but he's singing a different tune this summer.
Coming Soon recently talked to Raimi about his
status as the most profitable superhero series ever gears up for
its fourth
film.

"James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) is writing the script
and I'm excited to read it. I think it's going to be done in a few months," Raimi said. A year ago, Marvel and company were hunting down a new writer, based
less on where they knew the characters were headed and more on where the new
writer wanted to take the story. Raimi seems excited about Vanderbilt's concept,
adding, "I'm hoping it's as great as our discussions were about it.
Then Raimi officially threw his hat in the ring
again: "I love Spider-Man. I'm hoping I'm well rested enough to embrace it and
I'm hoping Sony wants me to do it. If all of those things come together, I would
love to do it. There are a lot of unknowns about the future."
As for those of us who would like nothing more than this series to progress
without
Kirsten Dunst, though, a bit of bad news. Raimi doesn't envision
changing up his cast. "I'd hate to re-cast anybody in the future, I can't
imagine that." Then you, sir, are in the minority.

God help us all...we will never get the Spiderman we deserve as long as the Sony people own this franchise.
Please no....Sam Raimi, you did enough damage by ruining the best villian ever in the horrendous direction of the third film.
Please...No...
The best villain ever? Heh, no.
Raimi didn't ruin Spider-man 3. Whoever forced him to add Venom at the last minute did. The script was written with Sandman and Vulture in mind, not Venom. Add to that the fact that Raimi, like most real fans, hates Venom and all of his one-dimensional children and the movie was bound to be garbage.
Hey, the three movies were pretty good so far and they're obviously making money. Why change the director?
To be honest with all of you, i never watched the third one, i was too socked at the fact that they totally butchered the entire comic series which i was deeply involved with as a child to a teenager, and to see how all this was portrayed was disgusting, i saw the 2nd one out of spite that maybe the story would be good, but no, cant say it was. But, by all means, if this movie series keeps making money, then why the hell not right?
WHERE THE HELL IS CARNAGE ???!!!!
Last one was really bad, although maybe Raimi learned something from his mistakes, I'd still prefer him over anyone else at this point.
I think the spiderman movies were okay..while they may have not followed the
comic 100% i think it did a decent job at an enjoyable movie. However...
I do agree with a lot of people that his job on bringing venom into the story
line and killing him off was HORRIBLE. I've never been agry at a movie, but
after I saw it i was real annoyed. They need to let sam raimi go and begin
a fresh start.
LOL, of course he is singing a different tune, he smells money! LOTS of money. Who wouldnt?

@Me:
Ugh. Spare me and everyone else the 'like most real fans' crap. What exactly defines a 'real' fan? Someone who agrees with your opinion of the series?
"WHERE THE HELL IS CARNAGE ???!!!!"
His "father" Venom was killed in SM3, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Carnage. :(
Remember that there's a piece of the Venom symbiote undergoing scientific testing by Doc Connors. So, while Eddie Brock may have been killed off, there's nothing that says that Carnage can't make a future appearance. Of course, Sam Raimi will have to want to do it, otherwise, it will just end up like the last movie.
Where's Deadpool?
Awesome, some of you people state that fans hate Venom despite Venom having his own comic book and the incredibly huge demand for Venom in the Spiderman movies. Seriously, if you hate Venom and think the general population agrees with you, you must be living in your own world.
Seriously how can you have Venom? Venom and carnage were two of my favorites!! Throw that "real fan" garbage out the window! As J said, Venom had his own comic!
^ You guys should get a life. Only mistake Raimi made was to listen to you so called fans (mids 30's, living in mom's basement) who were crying for Venom. Venom was always a week gimicky character and you got what you wanted. And people who complain it was campy and emo, watch the first two again. Nothing changed in 3, it was the same thing.
Venom is a great character and they should have made the movie with only venom as the villan
"Where's Deadpool?"
my sentiments exactly
"Where's Deadpool?"
Apparently, he's in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Only an idiot would ask for more venom or carnage. Those characters suck, and appeal only to feebs.
ok so ill throw in my own two cents. the 3rd movie sucked. end of story. blame it on whatever you will. in my opinion half of the problem with venom in the film was the actor. that actor played a role in "that 70's show" and was in no way intimidating at all as a villain. i also think that venom has always been a great nemesis for spiderman--similar to neo and agent smith. spiderman and venom go perfectly together and it is a shame that the 3rd movie blew a great opportunity to show how vicious a spiderman equal, venom, could be.
Why do people always complain that movie don't follow the comic book story, ever think that they want to make their own story based on the characters. Don't get me wrong, I love the comic books too and have read them, but really I don't need to see some exact copycat of the comics. I don't believe he butchered the movie. They couldn't be that bad, they did make loads of money, and everyone that complained about it didn't stop to watch them did they. Look at other stuff like Batman Begins and X-men, they are BASED of the comics. Not clones, the whole keywords is BASED. We all the know the hero lives at the end, now why would you want to watch something you already read and know exactly what is going to happen, I wouldn't want that, it would make it boring. I really hope I didn't offend anyone, just wanted to try and open the eyes of some, to let them know that it doesn't need to be a clone to be good!!
Which comics would it be based on, anyway? There are dozens of versions of Spidey out there and key stories are always being retold (BLUE, Spidey and The Human Torch) or revamped (Ultmates, Marvel Knights). Personally, the Lee/Ditko originals are still the best but the style is hokey to a modern audience. I've loved all the films and I think Raimi is an excellent director. Sure, 3 was crowded and Venom should have been saved for a solo spot (Vulture, in Raimi's hands, would have looked great, sad we missed out on it) but blockbuster films are all about compromise and he's doing a good job of keeping the spirit of the source material without going too cerebral (Ang Lee's Hulk) or pandering too much to the focus groups (Daredevil, Elektra) so quit whining, y'all. Enjoy 'em for what they are, not what they aren't.
