Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 3:30PM Trailer - Steve Martin Turns My Stomach in 'The Pink Panther 2'
I have very little tolerance for
Steve Martin these days. Clearly one of the
most distinctive comedians and later comic actors of the last 50 years, Martin
sunk his own ship in the early 1990s by appearing in a series of terribly
unfunny movies that he appeared to make only for the money. There's just no way
a man with his gauge and talents could look at Mixed Nuts or Sgt.
Bilko and decide they'd add to his legacy.
But things hit rock bottom two years ago when he robbed
the grave of the great
Peter Sellers - on the same list as Martin as
comedic minds go, only higher - to make a puny update of
The Pink Panther. Martin revealed an ugly,
indefensible greed and a terrible misunderstanding of homage in the movie, which
was among the worst films of 2006. It was also a successful one.
So now Martin is back, groping for money by stealing
another comedian's act...again, in
The Pink Panther 2. The movie won't come out
until February, which gives you enough time to get your affairs in order before
the Rapture, but there's already a new teaser for the movie, again promoting
itself as a comedy.
I was appalled to read that
John Cleese has given his stamp of approval to
pissing on Peter Sellers as well, playing Chief Inspector Dreyfus in the sequel
to the remake.

It wasn't 'all' bad if you ignore all the prior films. Which is what I find myself saying 'too' often these days. (Indy still stings in that respect)
Steve Martin needs to stick to writing books, talk show appearances, and hosting duties at this point...
Pathetic
