Two New Commercials for 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars'

Perhaps I've missed all the talk this summer about Star Wars: The Clone Wars, or perhaps there just isn't that much talk. The point is, I've had more people contact me about some also-rans of the summer than what I think is an exciting new direction for the storied George Lucas universe. Maybe the people who would've contacted me with questions and comments are already in line, though; Star Wars fans like to do that.

I sincerely doubt that's the case, so the only thing I'm left to assume is that, for some reason, people have cooled to this animated concept of telling the events between Episode II and Episode III. Perhaps the people who would normally be excited have already seen the first version of The Clone Wars, a TV series that was on the air five years ago, and their expectations aren't that high.

And some of the comments I have received indicate that some devotees would rather Lucas explore some other story ideas, namely the fabled last three episodes of the saga. Still, the animation looks cool and there's not as much involvement from Lucas, which would've been a good thing anytime after 1981.

Personally, I'm stoked about seeing this new Clone Wars, which hits theaters on August 15th, so there's still time for the people you'd expect to take off from work to see this film to get up to speed. To help them turn that corner, here are a couple of new TV ads for The Clone Wars, which we found this morning at MovieWeb.

I'm really curious about the potential box office for this. Can it do $40 million in its opening weekend and make $100 million or more by the end of its run? I really don't know. I would think so but the appeal may only be there strictly for die hard Star Wars fans.

Box office potential for this Star Wars depends highly on critical review in the media. Take me for instance, a Star Wars fan but not a diehard fan, I am waiting to hear how good it may actually be before I fork out the big bucks to see it when I could wait to rent it on video.

It looks like quite an exciting movie and interesting but my problem is that the trailers have not shown anything that I have not already seen in the 3 prequels that was brought to us unfortunately by George Lucas.

I am hoping it brings us something George has not been able to capture, when I find out that is the case from this film, and then I will be willing to pay decent money for it.

Yeah, go watch the clone wars cartoons, more of them is all that is needed. Unfortunately if you did not see them, and they were easy to miss, you dont understand how good this will be, especially compared to the star war prequel movies themselves. It's hard to portray that in a trailer, most people probably just go "oh animated star wars, wonder if it can be as bad as the prequels" The Star Wars name is tainted, and unfortunately you cant put into the preview "NOT DIRECTED BY GEORGE LUCAS". I expect shining reviews for this, it wont be perfect but it will be good.

Speaking as a huge Star Wars fan, "Enh." With dialog like "Surrender or die!" it's hard to remember it wasn't written by Lucas. The "son of Jabba the Hutt" plotline--I'm calling him Bubba the Hutt--feels as silly as the forced family dynamics of Return of the Jedi. And, as a friend here says, "I'm looking forward to watching Clone Wars the second weekend...when it's on TV."

Having grown up with Star Wars, I am among the legions embittered by the new trilogy. I'm still trying to make sense of why I put so much power in a few movies that appealed to me tremendously when my adolescent mind was forming opinions on everything from politics, religion, to love...

Star Wars appealed to me on all those levels. I suspect it did to all of you as well.

All these years later on days that I sit in the park reading, I notice young families. Four year olds having discussions about Vader and ObiWan are not uncommon, and neither are the action figures to personify those legends.

There are legions of new fans out there growing up on this mythos as it itself continues to evolve. And I think they are the same bunch who love Harry Potter.

Maybe that's why Warner is so confident, why they are attaching the new Potter Trailer, and why, I think, this movie will rake in some serious dough.

And it may not even need the guys who saw A New Hope 44 times before it was called A New Hope to do it.
