Is there really anything left to
Scream about? After all, when the series began,
it satirized the genre and became its best entry in years all at once, but then
the sequels were a little less interesting. In large measure, mainstream horror
movies have become less interesting, as well, a parade of
remakes and sequels that offer very little
originality. So wouldn't Scream 4 be Scream all over again?
Wes Craven recently told
MTV that he'd like to be involved in the
project that the Weinsteins are looking to resuscitate nearly a decade after the
third Scream flick. “My last experience [with the Weinsteins] was kind of
rough with
Cursed so it would have to be under very very
controlled circumstances,” admitted Craven. In defense of the Weinsteins - and
you don't hear that phrase everyday - Cursed wouldn't have made money
with Disneyfied marketing. It's just a bad, bad movie.
Having said that, Craven has earned the right to call
the shots again, particularly with a franchise partially built on his knowledge
of the genre and reputation within it. Whether or not his presence would make
Scream 4 worthwhile or not remains to be seen, but Craven sounds interested and
says he's been contacted about the film.
“There has been talk between
Bob Weinstein and me about doing another
Scream.” After a moment of reflection, Craven added, “I don’t know whether
that’s been made public so I’ll deny this. I never said it!”
The best news out of this entire development is the assignment of the creative duties, at least hypothetically. “It would be with Kevin [Williamson]," confirmed Craven, singling out the man who wrote the very clever script for the original. "Bob always liked that combination."
Oddly enough, the rough experience Wes had with the Weinsteins on Cursed featured a Williamson screenplay, as well.I'm willing to give the added chapter a chance, but it had better be a pretty special concept at this point.

Scream made Craven a legitimate contender in the horror biz, after a long time away...
I remember when Nightmare on Elm Street 3-D came out, and it seemed like a desperate attempt at reclaiming the glory...
Doesn't another Scream Movie (minus the fact that Neve Campbell needs work) seem like just that? I mean these movies have already spawned numerous spoofs...
If Craven was truly returning to form this would be something new...
Does Craven have a third wind? I think he does. But Scream is not it.
And I'm not talking "Music of the Heart" !!!!
Anything less just seems like an attempt to cash in...
i liked all the scream movies cept the third but i dont think they can do another one. honestly theres no one else that wants to kill sydney. her half brother that just magically made his way into the third movie is gone. i mean u cant go any more further then random half siblings that no one knows about. unless they do a prequel which wouldnt sound half bad
