Sunday, August 10, 2008 at 1:24PM Four New 'Star Trek' Character Posters
io9 has given the world four new
character posters for next year's
Star Trek. I can't say I feel great about every
single cast member, although I love the prequel concept, definitely think the
right guy is taking over the franchise at this point (J.J.
Abrams), and think it's absolutely the best way to spark new interest
in a set of 40-year-old characters.
The first character posters, released just before Comic
Con, featured Kirk (Chris
Pine), Spock (Zachary
Quinto), the evil Nero (Eric
Bana), and Uhura (Zoe
Saldana). Now we fill out the roster a little bit with, moving
clockwise from top left, Scotty (Simon
Pegg), Chekov (Anton
Yelchin), Bones (Karl
Urban), and Sulu (John
Cho). Here's how the pieces fit together:

And here are the individual posters. Print 'em out; you
might be able to get them signed at a convention in about 15 years.

Star Trek will hit theaters on May 8, 2009. And you can expect the first trailer either attached to Eagle Eye in September, or online a few days before that.

This is another one of those pictures that you sort of wish they would just get out there...is Trek moving forward? Is it going to continue to be stuck in a holding pattern? No one will know until this movie makes it's way to the people.
And Paramount? I know they had Indy (and are hoping for Mutt vs. Mummy), but it seems like they could use a hit. Or is Brett Ratner going to bring in some serious cash? (Yeah, big win there Paramount!).
By the way, the Star Trek Experience ends its run at the Las Vegas Hilton later this year...I'm kind of wondering (as the Hilton is truly the center of the Trekkie world) if the new movie will coincide with the relaunch of an all-new experience...
Makes sense to me.
I can only hope for a good new TV series to go along with the movie. I'm tired of getting a lift from a good series only to have it smashed a year or so later after its cancelled and kills off the characters. I would love a long lived TV series once again, but have failed to see anyone take it for a good run in many years. Please bring back Star Trek TV!
