Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 12:47AM More 'Dragonball' Photos Surface, Further Angering Purists
I barely have to lift a finger anymore to get a
conversation started about
Dragonball. The consensus - even among its fans
- seems to be that there's no way in hell they can approach all the storylines
in a movie, or even a trilogy, and that the big screen adaptation will probably
be silly if not worse.
I'm actually surprised by the levelheaded responses of
many of its fans. It's not that I didn't expect them to be intelligent or
thoughtful in their responses, but you know how fans are. After all, it's short
for fanatic. So you expect a bit of grief for suggesting that a movie about it
won't be perfect. I don't know enough about Dragonball to say one way or
the other, so I'm going just by the fan comments to
previous articles we've
published. Most of them are not saying this
will be better than The Dark Knight, for instance.
But I'm a little conflicted, because whether or not they
got the casting right - which is another sore subject for a lot of you - I
totally dig the production pictures and marketing images I've seen for it thus
far. There's a quality to them that I just like. Can't really say why. We have a
new batch, courtesy of the gallant warriors at
IGN, and you can find more shots over there,
too.
I mean, for as much of a beating as this project is
getting from its target audience, you'd half-expect anything you see from the
movie to be a flaming bag of doo doo. Here's a couple more with
Justin Chatwin, including a shot with
Chow Yun-Fat. (Seriously, he doesn't
raise the property value a little bit?)

Dragonball will piss off its fans for real
beginning April 10, 2009.

thy already blew it i read goku is in high skool anybody thats seen dbz knws goku never even read a book.. hollywood has no respect and a serious lack of imgenation i bet the fighting will b so poor but il watch it jus to say i told u so .... and im a true fan
goddamn give it a chance you havent even seen a teaser trailer yet and your just shittin all over this movie im a die hard dbz fan and im super excited about this flick sure there are slight REPEAT SLIGHT story differences but whatever it is an ADAPTATION
besides its gotta be better than the last live action dragonball movie so my suggestion...before you bitch about this one watch that one twice in a row
go ahead i dare you
I agree with tha ghost. This movie is built around for the entertainment purposes to maybe get people to come see it, and have no clue about Dragonball or the rest of the series. Entertainment people. That's why we go to the movies. He's right about the other movie. It really sucked. This is an up-to-date movie, with 2008 technology. It can't be that bad. I think it will be a good or great movie. I will see it for sure for entertainment value.
You guys are total losers its a movie they take creative liscence you are to old to be dwelling on the comparison between a movie and a cartoon find something to do with your time you idiots need to be able to seperate the two it is impossible for a live action movie to be identical to a cartoon dont be so stupid and what should they use a five year old to play Goku get a life you dorks and a girlfriend try that.
karloz u. - You make yourself sound like a tool when you post a comment because your grammar and spelling are both so terrible. Its not surprising at all that you're a DBZ fan.
For now I will hold any further opinions until the first trailer hit the web. Or possibly a pic of Piccalo, I just dont know how there going to make the special effects work for this, and when the trailer shows me some action I will have my answer.
You can make a good movie by changing storylines from the original work. Fight Club was an EXCELLENT movie and that broke from the book in lots of places. Spider-Man doesn't follow the correct Stan Lee mythology, but it was still a quality movie.
Just because Goku can read doesn't mean the movies going to suck. As long as his major character traits are there - loyalty, honor, loves to have fun, loves to fight, doesn't take life too seriously, eats like a horse on steroids - then he's okay.
I'm not writing this one off as bad yet. Yes, Hollywood lacks imagination on numerous fronts and they tend to stifle the truly original - BUT that's not the case here. If you had a mathematical formula that turned $100 million into $500 million without fail, would you mess with it? I'm not sure I would. There are worse things that could have happened. It could have been directed by Michael Bay or Joel Schumacher.
Joe
And I'll give anything with Chow Yun Fat the benefit of the doubt. Yes, even Bulletproof Monk.
