Friday, August 15, 2008 at 1:13AM Sam Raimi Not Officially Connected to New Jack Ryan Movie

Well...scratch that.
Moviehole did some digging and found out there's no deal between Paramount and Raimi, not as a director and not even as a producer. Apparently, conversations have taken place, but that's about the extent of it at this point.
In fact, the whole thing is little more than a house of cards: There's no director, even if Raimi produces, the project Paramount was developing - By Any Means Necessary - is no longer in the works, and there's no writer for whatever the hell the new story happens to be.
And it goes without saying that we don't have a Jack Ryan. If the studio decides to re-launch the series, which would make sense given the success of the brooding new Bond, they'd probably pick some dashing guy in his 30s in whose hands they'd entrust the immediate future of the series. Who would that be, I wonder?

Didn't Jason Bourne officially kill off Jack Ryan as the quintessential American Superhero?
If not, then I nominate Nathan Fillion to play Jack Ryan.
