Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11:54AM New Character Photos for 'Dragonball'
It was maybe six weeks ago that
we found quotes from
James Marsters about next year's long-awaited anime
adaptation,
Dragonball. Marsters plays Lord Piccolo in the
movie and he more or less admitted that there's a bunch of stuff the movie could
never get to, simply because of its time constraints.
What I found interesting about all this was not that
Marsters said it or that the filmmakers have decided to cut huge chunks out of
the storyline by necessity, but rather the reaction fans of the series have had
to the news. Some of our readers claiming to go way back with Dragonball
don't even want the movie for precisely this reason: If you can't tell the whole
story, just leave it alone.
Others agree that the story has to be trimmed but feel
that the filmmakers are probably cutting out the wrong things. And still others
aren't as concerned about all that and just hate the cast.
I'm not alone in being a sounding board for the hate;
Alex at
First Showing has received his fair share, too,
and wonders if anyone is looking forward to this movie. It is, in fact, First
Showing that led me to these new character photos (although they really come
from
Hoy Cinema and
Movie Soon). We have Goku, Mai, Chi-Chi and
Bulma (with Goku), so take a look at 'em and let us know just how much you hate the idea of
this movie now.
Or, and this would be refreshing, why Dragonball
might still be pretty good.

I want to love it, I really want to. It just seems so hard to do, and the pictures while they are ok do not inspire me. Still wont be able to say either way until the first preview starts to show up. The fans will come even if they complain. Hell most the DBZ anime movies themselves are half crap and violate the time lines along with creating new moves-techniques never seen before. As long the movie looks good they will get over there fanboy angst and enjoy it for what it is. The fact will be you just cant transfer DBZ to a movie, you have to change things to be able to make it fit.
this looks gay as shit.
looks like a cheap version of power rangers. and that show only cost like 1000 cents to make.
If I recall right Goku in Dragonball was about 12 years old and in the end 15 I think. This guy looks in his late 20s so wtf. Besides doesn't it look kinda odd that goku his american and the girls are asian. Jeez. At first I konda looked forward to the idea of making a dragonball movie but now I think that the movie will suck. Too bad.
Personally... I was never a fan and I feel bad for Justin Chatwin cause I think this movie is going to completely tank his career unless he starts choosing roles more wisely.
wow shoko u dont kno shit
goku was 12 in the begging but he was around 18 at the end
he trains for 3 years by himself then even longer w/kami stupid fuckin hick
who the hell cares about all those little details..this movie is not going to suck..big buget, cast who is loving their roles and so dedicated is going to make the movie all that much better, justin chatwin as goku is an awesome choice he looks a lot like a young version of goku and the rest of the cast is pretty sweet too. I mean come on putting a 12 year old kid in a dragonball movie just to please fans, that would look incredibly stupid, now that would tank. This movie is gunna be awesome!
Where's the orange jumpsuit? It looks like Joel Schumacher's directing it under an alias...
Maybe Robert Rodriguez should direct this and call it Dragonball: Spy Kids 4 in 3-D.
